Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield 2009 Individual Rate Filing

Maine law requires rate filings on individual health insurance policies – 24-A M.R.S.A. §2736(1)

Anthem requested a rate increase for its HealthChoice, HealthChoice Standard and Basic, and Lumenos Consumer Directed Health Plan products and public hearings were scheduled. Bureau of Insurance to Hold Hearings on Anthem’s Requested Rate Increase for HealthChoice and Lumenos Products

Superintendent Mila Kofman issued two decisions following the public hearings. Hearing decision May 18, 2009; Hearing decision May 19, 2009

On August 21, 2009, Anthem filed an appeal in the Maine Superior Court.

On Sept. 23, 2009, the Superintendent filed a response to the appeal.

On Oct. 7, 2009, Anthem filed its reply brief, including:
            Cover letter to the clerk of Kennebec County Superior Court
            Three exhibits: Exhibit A, Exhibit B, Exhibit C
            Application for Transfer to Business Consumer Court

On Oct. 13, 2009, a letter stating that there is no objection to transferring the case to Business Consumer Court was filed with the clerk’s office.
