SPECIFIC
REQUIREMENTS
- Hold
a valid appraiser license (appraiser trainee, licensed
appraiser or certified residential) AND
- Complete
a cumulative total of three thousand (3,000) hours of
experience satisfactory to the Board, 1500 hours of which
must be for commercial appraisals, obtained in no fewer
than 30 months AND
- Complete
a cumulative total of 180 hours of Board approved education,
15 hours of which must be for Uniform Standards of Practice
AND
- Pass
the certified general examination.
NON-RESIDENT
APPLICANTS AND APPLICANTS WHO HOLD A LICENSE IN ANOTHER
STATE
- An
applicant who is licensed in a state that has a current
reciprocal agreement with the Board may obtain the equivalent
license upon filing the required application(s) and fees
together with:
- an
irrevocable consent that service of process may be
filed in a court of this State if necessary AND
-
verification of licensure in another state.
- An
applicant who is licensed in a state that does not have
a current reciprocal agreement with the Board may obtain
a license upon filing the required application(s) and
fees AND
- an
irrevocable consent that service of process may be
filed in a court of this State if necessary AND
- verification
of licensure in another jurisdiction AND
- evidence
that the license in the other jurisdiction was issued
under qualifications equivalent to those in this State
(a copy of the other jurisdiction's license law and
rules is usually sufficient).

Description
Certified
Residential Appraiser means a person licensed by the Department
of Professional and Financial Regulation to appraise residential
real property of one to 12 units or land related to that property
without regard to transaction value or complexity when a net income
capitalization analysis is not required.
For federally
related transactions, a certified residential appraiser may only
appraise residential real estate or real property of one to 4
units, or and related to that property without regard to transaction
value or complexity when a net income capitalization analysis
is not required.

licensing term. Certificates of completion must be submitted
in advance of renewal if applicant wither to renew electronically.

A nonresident

has met the qualifications for the license prescribed by law.

Our Purpose
The Maine
Board of Real Estate Appraisers was established to protect the
public through examination and licensure of persons who wish to
conduct real estate appraisals for a fee in the State of Maine
as mandated by the federal Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery,
and Enforcement Act of 1989.
The primary
responsibilities of the Board are to identify qualified applicants
for licensure, to issue licenses and renewals to applicants who
have met licensure requirements and to promulgate rules as necessary
to ensure protection of the public to enforce the Uniform Standards
of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP).
