Limited Radiographer

Description

"Limited Radiographer" is defined as a person other than a licensed practitioner who applies x-radiation to specific parts of the human body, for diagnostic purposes while under the supervision of a licensed practitioner.

Please review the Board's rules, Chapter 1, Section 5(A)(2) and Chapter 2, for requirements that must be satisfied prior to licensure.

  • Application Fee of $70
  • Licensure Fee of $70 ($35 if issued on or after Sept. 1st of odd-numbered years through June 30th of even-numbered years.)

REQUIREMENTS

If applying for permanent licensure as a Limited Radiographer, please submit the following:

  • Completed and signed application (complete parts 1, 2, 3, 6, 8, and 9).
  • Documentation of passage of the Limited Radiographer Examination.
  • Completed Criminal History Record Check Form and separate $8.

Renewal Information

FEES

  • This license renews biennially on August 31 of even-numbered years.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Completed Application;
  • A late fee of $10. is assessed for licenses renewed after the August 31 license expiration date.
  • A person who submits an application for renewal more than 90 days after the license expiration date is subject to all requirements governing new applicants and is required to reapply with an original license application, documentation and fees.
  • Renewal applications are mailed approximately 30 days prior to the license expiration date. It is the licensee's responsibility to keep the Board informed of the current license address and/or to see that the license is renewed.
  • CONTINUING EDUCATION 24 hours of board approved continuing education is due at the time of renewal.

Radiologic Technologist

Description

"Radiologic Technologist" is defined as any person who is a Radiographer, a Radiation Therapy Technologist or a Nuclear Medicine Technologist who is licensed: "Radiographer" is defined as a person, other than a licensed practitioner, who applies ionizing radiation to human beings for diagnostic purposes by or under the supervision of a licensed practitioner. "Radiation Therapy Technologist" is defined as a person, other than a licensed practitioner, who applies ionizing radiation on human beings for therapeutic purposes, including simulation, by or under the supervision of a licensed practitioner. "Nuclear Medicine Technologist" is defined as a person, other than a licensed practitioner, who uses radionuclides on human beings for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes.

Special Permit Nuclear Medicine Trainee

Description

A "Special Permit Nuclear Medicine Trainee" is defined as a licensed radiographer who has otherwise complied with all of the requirements to become a Nuclear Medicine Technologist and is preparing to take the examination in Nuclear Medicine Technology.

TERM
  • The permit shall be granted once per applicant, for a period not to exceed one year. The applicant will be required to take the next scheduled exam. The license will stay in effect until the results of the exam are known. Pending successful completion of the State examination, the trainee must be under the direct supervision of a licensed Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
REQUIREMENTS

If applying for a Special Permit in Nuclear Medicine, please submit the following:

  • Completed and signed application (complete parts 1, 3, 4, 5, and 9).
  • Submit a current copy of your ARRT wallet card.
  • Submit a letter from your chief technologist that states the need to issue a special permit to you and recruitment documentation. This documentation shall be copies of newspaper advertisements and/or explanation of recruitment problems.
  • Submit a letter from the Nuclear Medicine Technologist stating that you will be under his/her direct supervision while holding a Special Permit as a Nuclear Medicine Trainee.
  • Completed Criminal History Record Check Form and separate $8. check.

Temporary Radiologic Technologist

Description

A temporary license may be granted to a person who has complied with the conditions of the Board's rules and is awaiting examination for either nuclear medicine technology, radiation therapy technology or diagnostic radiologic technology.

A temporary license may be issued a maximum of two (2) times in one (1) discipline. The first will expire the earlier of: (1) When the results of the examination is known, or (2) ninety (90) days following the issuance of the temporary license. A second temporary license may be issued if the applicant fails the examination and applies for re-examination, and shall be valid until the result of that examination is known, or 90 days following the issuance of the second temporary license, whichever comes first.

NOTE: The application fee for a Temporary License shall extend to the initial permanent license; consequently, only one application fee is required for a Temporary / first Permanent License.

TERM
  • 90 days or when the results of the examination is know.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Completed and signed application (complete parts 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 9).
  • The licensed practitioner that will be responsible for the supervision of the applicant must sign part 2 of the application.
  • Completed Criminal History Record Check Form and separate $8. check.

An applicant for a temporary license must make a separate application for each hiring office or institution at which he or she is to be employed; however, only one application and license fee is required.

Only applicants who have successfully completed, or are about to complete within one month, a program approved by the Board specific to the license may apply for a temporary license.

To upgrade from a Temporary to a Permanent License, please submit the following:

  • Completed and signed application (complete parts 1, 3, 4, 5 & 9).
  • Current copy of your ARRT or NMTCB wallet card.
  • $70. License fee. ($35 if license is issued on or after Sept. 1st of odd-numbered years through June 30th of even-numered years.)
  • Completed Criminal History Record Check Form and separate $8. check.

Our Purpose

The Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners was established to protect the public from the effects of excessive and improper exposure to ionizing radiation.

The primary responsibilities of the Board is to examine and license qualified applicants, to make rules defining the qualifications and professional standards of practitioners, to investigate complaints against licensees and to take appropriate disciplinary action against noncompliance with its rules and law.
