Description
"Podiatrist"
means an individual currently licensed to practice Podiatric Medicine:
The diagnosis and treatment of maladies of the human foot and
ankle by medical, surgical or mechanical means. Practice of Podiatric
Medicine includes the administration of local anesthesia in conjunction
with the practice of Podiatry. The use of general anesthesia is
permitted in conjunction with the practice of Podiatry when administered
or supervised by a Medical or Osteopathic Physician who assumes
responsibility for the administration of that anesthesia to a
patient being treated by a Podiatrist.

| REQUIREMENTS |
The
application, along with all supporting documents and a check
made payable to "Treasurer, State of Maine", must be submitted
to the Board at least 60 days prior to the Board meeting
at which you wish to have your application reviewed. Following
an evaluation of your credentials, you will receive notice
of the outcome of the evaluation. Before licensure may be
granted, applicants must present themselves for and successfully
pass an oral examination at a regular meeting of the Board.
Examination
The
Board has adopted the PMLexis examination as its standard
examination for licensure qualification. The examination
will be offered in Maine in June and December of each year.
The examination fee is $400.
An
application for examination shall include:
- A
completed application form.
- Official
documentation of Pre-Podiatric education.
- Notarized
copy of podiatric degree.
- A
completed certificate of podiatric education.
- Official
documentation of passing scores on Parts I and II of the
National Boards.
- PMLexis
Examination scores.
- Notarized
copy of certificate of Residency (if applicable).
- Notarized
copy of applicant's CPR certification.
- SBI
form and separate check for $8.
Make

An
application for licensure on the basis of endorsement of
scores attained on the examination of the National Board
of Podiatric Medical Examiners shall include:
- A
completed application form.
- Official
documentation of Pre-Podiatric education.
- Notarized
copy of Podiatric degree.
- A
completed certificate of podiatric education.
- Official
documentation of passing scores on Parts I and II of the
National Boards.
- PMLexs
examination scores.
- Notarized
copy of certificate of Residency (if applicable)
- Notarized
copy of applicant's CPR certification.
- A
verification of licensure form completed by any state
board where applicant is presently or was previously licensed.

late fee of $50.00 is assessed for licenses renewed after
the June 30 license expiration date.
- A
late fee of $200. is assessed for licenses renewed 91
days to 2 years after the license expiration date.
- A
person who submits an application for renewal more than
90 days after the license expiration date is subject to
all requirements governing new applicants and is required
to reapply with an original license application, documentation
and fees.
- Renewal
applications are mailed approximately 90 days prior to
the license expiration date. It is the licensee's responsibility
to keep the Board informed of the current license address
and/or to see that the license is renewed.
- CONTINUING
EDUCATION
- 25 hours of board approved continuing education is due
at the time of renewal in the odd-numbered years.

residency and not having passed the licensure examination.

Our Purpose
The Board
of Licensure of Podiatric medicine was established to protect
the public through regulation of the practice of podiatry in the
State of Maine by setting professional standards.
The primary
responsibilities of the Board is to conduct examinations of candidates
for licensure to practice podiatry, to verify credentials of applicants,
to license and renew upon documentation of continuing education
activities, to conduct hearings and investigations upon receipt
of complaints pertaining to podiatry.
