Master Plumber

Description

A Master Plumber means any person licensed by the Board, to engage in, or about to engage in, the business of installing plumbing or plumbing systems.

Application Information

FEES

  • Application fee of $25.00
  • License fee of $150.00
TERM
  • Every two years based on first licensure date
REQUIREMENTS

EXAMINATION - A minimum of at least one year with 2,000 hours of work in the field of plumbing installations as a licensed journeyman plumber; or a minimum of at least four years with 8,000 hours of work in the field of plumbing installations as a licensed trainee plumber under the supervision of a licensed master plumber.

RECIPROCITY - The Plumbers' Examining Board shall issue a license to any person who files a sworn application and is licensed by another state or territory of the United States that has a reciprocity agreement with the State of Maine. The State of Maine presently has a reciprocity agreement with New Hampshire.

  • SBI form and separate check for $8.00

  • A late fee of $10.00 is assessed for licenses renewed after the license expiration date.
  • Any person who submits an application for renewal more than 90 days after the expiration date shall be subject to all requirements governing new applicants.

Journeyman Plumber

Description

A Journeyman Plumber means any person who customarily performs the work of installing plumbing and drainage under the employment and direction of a master plumber or, not being a master plumber, does plumbing repair work as a regular part-time occupation.

  • License fee of $75.00
TERM
  • Every two years based on first licensure date
REQUIREMENTS

EXAMINATION - A minimum of at least two years with 4,000 hours of work in the field of plumbing installations as a licensed trainee plumber under the supervision of a licensed master plumber; or a minimum of 2,000 hours of work in the field of plumbing installations as a licensed journeyman-in-training under the supervision of a licensed master plumber, as long as the work experience is obtained within four years of the date upon which the applicant was issued a journeyman-in-training license.

Trainee Plumber

Description

A Trainee Plumber means any person who is engaged in assisting and making plumbing installations under the direct supervision of a journeyman plumber or master plumber, whether for the purpose of learning the trade or otherwise.

A Company license is not required; however, any Master Plumber that wants to license a Company may do so. A licensed Master Plumber must be the validating Master in order for a Company license to be issued.

Our Purpose

The Plumbers' Examining Board was established to preserve and protect the health of the people of the State of Maine by insuring the existence of adequate safety and health standards for plumbing installations, to examine and license persons performing plumbing in the State of Maine.

The primary responsibilities of the Board are to establish and determine qualifications and oversee the administration of examinations of any person applying to act as a plumber, to investigate all complaints of noncompliance of violations of the current board law or rules, to recommend suspension or revocation to the Administrative Court under the APA of all licensees found to be guilty of fraud, deceit, negligence or misconduct.
