Nursing Home Administrator

Description

"Administrator" means an individual who is charged with and has responsibility for the general administration of a facility other than a hospital whether or not such individual has an ownership interest in such home and whether or not that individual's functions and duties are shared with one or more other individuals.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Completed and signed application for licensing;
  • Transcript(s) documenting educational requirements as stated in Board rules Chapter 2, Section 1(B);
  • Two (2) reference letters indicating the applicant to be of good record and reputation for honest and reliable conduct in personal and business affairs;
  • Resume;
  • Documentation that the applicant has completed a Board-approved AIT Program or be eligible for endorsement as specified in Chapter 6 of the Board Rules;
  • Completed criminal records check form and payment of a separate $8. fee.

All applicants applying for licensure as a Nursing Home Administrator must have passed both the state and national examinations.

Upon submission of the above requirements, the applicant shall report to the Board, at a regularly scheduled meeting, for the purpose of orientation. If an applicant is deemed to have met all requirements, they shall be eligable to sit for the State and National Exams. Upon successful completion of both examinations, they shall be issued a license as a Nursing Home Administrator.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Completed Application;
  • A late fee of $10. is assessed for licenses renewed after the June 30 license expiration date.
  • A person who submits an application for renewal more than 90 days after the license expiration date is subject to all requirements governing new applicants and is required to reapply with an original license application, documentation and fees.
  • Renewal applications are mailed approximately 30 days prior to the license expiration date. It is the licensee's responsibility to keep the Board informed of the current license address and/or to see that the license is renewed.
  • CONTINUING EDUCATION - 24 hours of board approved continuing education with the renewal.

Multi-Level Long Term Care Facility Administrator

Description

A "Multi-Level Long Term Care Facility Administrator" is a licensed individual who is charged with, and has responsibility for, the general administration of a Multi-Level Long Term Care Facility, a Nursing Home, or a Residential Care Facility. A "Multi-Level Long Term Care Facility" is a medical care facility, other than a hospital, that provides more than one level of long term care, including care levels normally associated with nursing homes and those associated with residential care / assisted living.

REQUIREMENTS
  • All applicants applying for licensure as a Multi-Level Long Term Care Facility Administrator shall be required to meet the qualifications pertaining to both Nursing Home Administrators and to Residential Care Facility Administrators.
  • Applicants applying for licensure must submit the requirements pertaining to licensure as a Nursing Home Administrator and in addition, submit documentation that the applicant has demonstrated knowledge of residential care/assisted living by completing one of the requirements stated in Chapter 4, Section (1) of the Board Rules.
  • All applicants applying for licensure as a Multi-Level Long Term Care Facility Administrator must have passed both the state and national examinations. Upon submission of the above requirements, the applicant shall report to the Board, at a regularly scheduled meeting, for the purpose of orientation. If an applicant is deemed to have met all requirements, they shall be eligable to sit for the State and National examinations
  • Upon successful completion of both examinations, they shall be issued a license as a Multi-Level Long Term Care Facility Administrator.

Residential Care Facility Administrator

Description

"Residential Care Facility Administrator" is an individual who is charged with, and has responsibility for, the general administration of a Residential Care Facility. A "Residential Care Facility" refers, for this purpose, to a Level II Residential Care Facility having a licensed capacity for seven or more residents, and whose services provided fall within the definition of a medical care facility other than a hospital.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Completed and signed application for licensure;
  • Written documentation that the applicant meets the requirements for a Residential Care Facility Administrator as outlined in Chapter 3, Section 1(B) of the Board Rules;
  • Two (2) written character reference letters indicating that the applicant is of good record and reputation for honest and reliable conduct in personal and business affairs;
  • Verification of Licensure (if applicable);
  • Criminal History Record Check form and payment of a separate $8. fee for a criminal records (SBI) check.

Upon submission and approval of the above requirements, you will be issued a license as a Residential Care Facility Administrator.

If you are applying for licensure by endorsement, you must meet the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Board Rules. All applications for licensure must attend an orientation interview with the Board.

Temporary Nursing Home Administrator

Description

In order to fill a position that unexpectedly becomes vacant for an Administrator in a facility covered by Board Rules, the Board shall issue a temporary license provided that the applicant has met the requirements as stated in Chapter 7 of the Board Rules.

All applicants for temporary licensure must submit the following:

  • Completed and signed application for licensure
  • Two (2) reference letters indicating the applicant to be of good record and reputation for honest and reliable conduct in personal and business affairs;
  • Resume;
  • Notarized Statement of Need;
  • Payment of $25.00 application fee and $125.00 license fee.
  • Completed Criminal History Records Check form and payment of a separate $8.00 fee.

Upon submission of the above requirements, the applicant shall report to the Board, at a regularly scheduled meeting for the purpose of orientation.

The temporary license shall be issued for a period not to exceed three (3) months, but it may be renewed for an additional three (3) months at the discretion of the Board, upon demonstration of extreme hardship and in the interest of public protection.

Administrator-In-Training

Description

"Administrator-in-Training" means an individual who meets the qualifications set forth in rules by the board, is engaged in a training program defined in rules and approved by the board and is under the supervision of a Preceptor also approved by the board.

  • Maximum of one year, or until qualify for Administrator's license.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Completed and signed application for licensure;
  • Transcript(s) documenting educational requirements as stated in Board rules Chapter 4, Section 1(B);
  • Two (2) reference letters indicating the applicant to be of good record and reputation for honest and reliable conduct in personal and business affairs;
  • Resume;
  • Formal Training Guide;
  • Written documentation that the applicant's Preceptor has completed a Board approved Preceptor Training Program;
  • Completed criminal records check form and payment of a separate $8.00 fee.

The AIT program shall be supervised by a Preceptor as defined in Chapter 2 of the Board Rules. Please review the Board Rules for further information pertaining to application for the AIT Program.

Upon submission of the above requirements, the applicant shall report to the Board, at a regularly scheduled meeting, for the purpose of orientation.

Upon completion of the AIT Program and all other necessary requirements, the applicant shall make application for examination in writing on forms provided by the Board. Upon successful completion of both the state and national examinations, the applicant shall be eligible for licensure.

REQUIREMENTS

The Board may endorse, without written national examination, a valid, permanent license issued by the proper authorities of any other state to a Nursing Home Administrator, Residential Care Administrator, or Multi-Level Long Term Care Facility Administrator, upon payment of the established fee, provided that the applicant has met the requirements as stated in Chapter 6 (1) of the Board Rules.

All applicants applying for licensure by Endorsement must submit the following:

  • Completed and signed application for licensure;
  • Documentation that the applicant has met the requirement for licensure as stated in Chapter 6 Section 1 of Board Rules;
  • Written verification of satisfactory completion of the NAB national examination;
  • Two (2) reference letters indicating the applicant to be of good record and reputation for honest and reliable conduct in personal and business affairs;
  • Resume;
  • Completed Verification of Licensure form from state(s) that you hold or previously held any certification, licensure, or other credential;
  • Completed criminal records check form (SBI) and payment of a separate $8. fee.

Our Purpose

The Nursing Home Administrators Licensing Board was established to ensure that qualified applicants for licensure of administrators meet the necessary standards to be qualified and responsible for the general administration of a facility other than a hospital.

The primary responsibilities of the Board is to examine and license qualified applicants for licensure by ensuring that minimum core competency standards for general administration of a nursing home facility have been met, to revoke or to refuse to renew any licenses after proper notice and hearing.
