A Geologist
is a person engaged in the practice of geology. Practice of Geology
means the performance of geological work or service for the public,
including, but not limited to, consultation, investigation, surveys,
evaluation, planing, mapping or inspection of geological work,
wherein the performance is related to the public welfare or the
safeguarding of life, health, property and the environment.

of Soil Science means any professional service, which requires
the application of pedological principles and data. Such professional
service includes identification and mapping of soils according
to the standards of the National Cooperative Soil Survey, consultation
or evaluation.

Our Purpose
The State
Board of Certification for Geologists and Soil Scientists was
established to ensure public safety through licensure and certification
of professional geologists and soil scientists defined by education
and experience.
The primary
responsibility of the Board is to examine, certify and grant certificates
to applicants who qualify to practice as geologists and soil scientists
in the State, and to maintain current information on licensed
geologists and soil scientists.
