Description
Licensed
Professional Forester means a person licensed by the Department
of Professional and Financial Regulation to offer professional
services requiring the application of forestry principles and
techniques, including investigations, consultations, development
of forest management plans, supervision of forest management,
forest utilization, forest economics or other forestry activities
carried out in connection with public or private lands.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL APPLICANTS (including
those applying by reciprocity and those previously licensed
by this Board)

Completed initial application to include:

SBI form and separate check for $8.00 made payable
to Treasurer, State of Maine. (To be submitted with
license fee after having passed the licensing examination.)
- Credit
Card Application if authorizing payment of fees by
VISA or MasterCard.
- Transcripts
for approved forestry curriculum as described below.
- EDUCATION
& EXPERIENCE
-
Minimum bachelor's degree from an approved forestry
curriculum accredited by the Society of American Foresters
or certified by the Canadian Institute of Forestry
and 2 years experience under the supervision of a
licensed Professional Forester or as a Registered
Forestry Intern, OR
- Minimum
bachelor's degree from non-accredited institution
with Board approval using the Society of American
Foresters criteria for accreditation and 2 years experience
under the supervision of a licensed Professional Forester
or as a Registered Forestry Intern, OR
- 8
years full-time experience approved by the Board,
two years of which must be as a Registered Forestry
Intern. The two-years internship may be exempted if
can demonstrate more than 8 years experience.
- Education
may be substituted on a 1/1 ratio for up to 3 of the
8 years experience required when the has not graduated
with a bachelor degree and does not possess a full
8 years practical experience.
- EXAMINATION
-
All applicants are required to pass the Forester licensing
examination, including those applying by reciprocity
or those who previously held a Maine forester license.

Renewal Information

FEES
|
- Annual
renewal fee is $40.00.
|
| TERM |
- This
license renews annually on December 31
|
| REQUIREMENTS |
- A
late fee of $10.00 is assessed for licenses renewed after
December 31.
- A
person who submits an application for renewal more than
90 days after the license expiration date is subject to
all requirements governing new applicants and is required
to reapply with original license application, documentation
and fees.
- Renewal
applications are mailed 30 days prior to the license expiration
date. It is the licensee's responsibility to keep the
board informed of the current license address and/or to
see that the license is renewed absent the renewal application.
- CONTINUING
EDUCATION - 12 hours of continuing professional education
is required for renewal every even numbered year.

Description

Renewal
Information
Registered Forestry Intern is issued for two years and does not
renew. At its' discretion, the board may issue a directive that
the internship be extended beyond the two years.

Our Purpose
The State
Board of Licensure of Professional Foresters was established to
protect the public from unqualified practitioners through the
regulation of the practice of forestry in the State of Maine and
to insure proper management of forest resources in the State.
The primary
responsibility of the Board is to insure the competency of foresters
through examination; to issue licenses to those qualified to hold
the title of Professional Forester; to investigate complaints
of noncompliance with or violations of the law and board rules.
