Auctioneers

Description

Auctioneer means a person licensed by the Department of Professional and Financial Regulation to conduct, advertise or offer services to conduct auctions of real, personal or mixed property. Unless specifically exempted, a license is required to engage in the business of auctioneering [reference 32 MRSA Chapter 5-B §286].

REQUIREMENTS

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL APPLICANTS

Completed application to include:

  • Completed initial application to include: · Credit Card Application if authorizing payment of fees by VISA or MasterCard.

Submit upon successful completion of Auctioneer Licensing Examination:

  • $100 license fee
  • Evidence that applicant has obtained a surety bond in the amount of $10,000.
  • SBI form and separate check for $8.00 made payable to Treasurer, State of Maine.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS FOR NONRESIDENT APPLICANTS

  • All general requirements as outlined above, AND
  • Furnish a certificate of good standing from each jurisdiction in which applicant is licensed, AND
  • File an irrevocable consent to service form with the Board.

Renewal Information

FEES

  • Annual renewal fee is $100.00.

  • This license renews annually on
    March 31
REQUIREMENTS
  • Licensees are required to furnish evidence of a surety bond in the amount of $10,000 that will remain in effect for the duration of the renewed license term.
  • A late fee of $25.00 is assessed for licenses renewed after March 31.
  • A person who submits an application for renewal more than 90 days after the license expiration date is subject to all requirements governing new applicants and is required to reapply with original license application, documentation and fees.
  • Renewal applications are mailed approximately 30 days prior to the license expiration date. It is the licensee's responsibility to keep the board informed of the current license address and/or to see that the license is renewed absent the renewal application.

The Board of Licensing of Auctioneers was established to protect the public and maintain high professional standards through examination and licensure of persons who wish to engage in auctioning in the State of Maine.

The primary responsibilities of the Board is to examine all applicants who seek licensure; to issue licenses and renewals to applicants who meet licensure requirements; to promulgate rules establishing standards and to verify qualifications of applicants for licensure.
