Description
Athletic
Trainer means a person licensed by the Department of Professional
and Financial Regulation and uses the title "athletic trainer"
after having met the requirements for licensing. Unless specifically
exempted, a license is required to practice in the State of Maine
[reference 32 MRSA Chapter 127-A §14356 "Exemptions"].

- TRANSCRIPTS
- Provide a transcript(s) that contain college or university
names, curriculum in athletic training or provide proof
of completion of an athletic training education program
approved by the National Athletic Trainers Association.
- CERTIFICATE
- Provide a copy of certificate if currently certified
by the National Athletic Trainers Association; or, proof
of passage of the National Athletic Trainers Association
Board of Certification Examination.

Credit Card Application if authorizing payment of licensure
fee and application fee totaling $150.00.

Renewal Information

renewal fee is $100.00.

| TERM |
- This
license is renewed annually based on anniversary date
of original license.
|
| REQUIREMENTS |

Completed Application
- A
copy of your current National Athletic Trainers Association
Certification of Continuing Education (NATA) card is required
with the renewal.
- Completion
of criminal conviction question by indicating yes or no,
and submission of documentation that lists date(s) and
crime(s) and submit a copy of the court judgment(s). If
your answer is "Yes" you must mail the completed renewal
application and the necessary fees along with a copy of
the court judgment. You must also submit a letter listing
the date of the conviction, the crime committed, and explaining
the circumstances surrounding the conviction.
- A
late fee of $10.00 is assessed for licenses renewed after
the license expiration date.
- A
person who submits an application for renewal more than
90 days after the license expiration date is subject to
all requirements governing new applicants and is required
to reapply with original license application, documentation
and fees.

Description
Student
Athletic Trainer means a person that holds a permit issued by
the Department of Professional and Financial Regulation. The permit
allows the person who is currently fulfilling the requirements
for licensure or pursuing a supervised course of study leading
to a degree or certificate in athletic training at an accredited
or approved educational program to use the title "Student
Athletic Trainer."

for 6 months or upon failure to pass the National Athletic Trainers'
Association examination, whichever occurs first.

Our Purpose
The Legislature
finds the practice of athletic training affects the public health,
safety and welfare and is subject to regulation and control in
the public interest. The purpose of regulating athletic trainers
is to protect the public from unqualified athletic trainers and
from unprofessional conduct by persons licensed to use the title
'athletic trainer."
The primary
responsibility of the Office is to review applicants for licensure
for the practice of athletic training, as well as compile and
maintain current information on licensed athletic trainers in
the State of Maine.
