The excise tax is calculated using the Aircraft Blue Book’s average equipment price and the applicable mil rate below for each aircraft:

• Current Model Year 9 mils
• 2nd Model Year 7 mils
• 3rd Model Year 5 mils
• 4th Model Year 4 mils
• 5th Model Year or older 3 mils

When do I register my aircraft?

In January, the Department of Transportation Aircraft Division will send out a renewal letter and application. At that time, you may register your aircraft.

What happens if I don’t register my aircraft?

For aircrafts that are not registered with the Department of Transportation immediately after a second notice in late April is received, a personal property tax in excess of the amount of the excise tax will be assessed. A letter is sent in July notifying the municipalities of unregistered aircraft in their territory.
